TK Productions Expanding, Now Marketing More Albums by Carita Spencer currently on the roster , Stone indicates LOS ANGELES-T.K. Productions is an independent record company that prides itself in acquiring, breaking and developing new artists. Judging from the transition T .K . has made in the past year from a singles to an album oriented company, that pride
seems justified. In April of 1977, the label had nine singles and one album on the Cash Box R&B charts, paced by a hit album and single by KC & The Sunshine Band, both of which crossed over to pop . Presently, T .K . is represented across-the-board with five albums charting R&B , four of which are crossing to pop, and one LP on the jazz chart. Additionally, Dorothy Moore, Peter Brown, Jimmy “Bo ” Horne and KC & The Sunshine Band all have singles on the R&B chart , with the latter three making impressive inroads on the pop chart as well. “T .K . is exploding and we’re becoming a big LP company at this point ,” says label president Henry Stone. “We’ve always been very heavily into R&B , disco and contemporary
music and will be expanding more into jazz , in addition to getting into rock eventually. “In The Beginning The history of T.K . began in a block-long warehouse in an industrial area of Miami called Hialeah. It was there that Stone operated Tone Distributors in 1946. Although distribution was his business , Stone managed to turn out a few hits on his Alston label (Betty Wright’s ” Clean UpWoman and Clarence Reed’s “Nobody But
You Babe”) , which was distributed byAtlantic . Subsequently , he became more involved with making records ; and in 1974 , George McCrae hit with “Rock Your Baby ” on the T.K. label , which was produced by H.W . Casey and Richard Finch , then two producer-writers just getting started .
The company has been expanding ever With approximately 40-50 acts.
